Working with Hannah on the plantings for our NYC terrace was a terrific experience. She brought an enormous amount of knowledge and experience to the job, and was energetic, smart, and hands-on about every aspect of it. She really knows her plants! We had a long discussion about design possibilities, covering everything from the look and feel my wife and I were hoping for, to the possibility of constructing an arbor on casters for a wisteria vine (not an easy proposition since those vines are so heavy and strong that they require significant support, but we couldn’t have anything fixed because the building needs access to the actual roof below our decking), to plants that would thrive on a windy roof in Manhattan, to the kind of planting boxes and potting soil we would use. It was immediately clear that we were in completely competent hands; we also loved her aesthetic sensibility, and as we went through the various stages of the process - she submitted a proposal with drawings, then revised it based on some of our requests, then turned it all into reality - working with her was always a pleasure. Our terrace now is just the kind of peaceful, flowering green haven we were hoping for. When the weather permits we spend every possible minute out there, and we never get tired of it. – David Kaiser and Rosemary Hicks, Greenwich Village, NY
Hannah Edmunds is such a joy to work with. She knows her plants as if they were all her children, knowing which needs just a bit of sun, and which a full blast of it, and which will go well next to which to create that urban oasis we all want. A mother’s vision? And she has a lovely, tender manner that turns the whole thorny business of actually making it happen - the plotting, the buying, the digging - into a delightful unfolding. – John Sedgwick, Park Slope, Brooklyn NY
As the design architect for a duplex penthouse renovation in Chelsea, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Hannah on the terrace layout and plantings. Her impressive comprehensive knowledge of plants, hands-on approach and enthusiasm for her work were instrumental in the success of the project. – Caroline Schweyer, GormanSchweyer Architects LLP
My wife and I recently renovated and expanded a Carroll Gardens brownstone. As part of this renovation, we installed multiple decks and created a new backyard space. Hannah took charge and created wonderful and inviting planting spaces for us. She is creative, energetic, thoughtful and convivial. She even helped at the last minute to make everything perfect for a high school graduation backyard barbeque that we had for my son. We are nearly ready to plant the renovated front of our house and Hannah will of course do this as well. We cannot recommend Hannah highly enough. – Jeff and Rachael Schweon, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn
Hannah Edmunds had a great vision for my yard and garden and followed through in a professional and caring manner. She avoided taking a cookie-cutter approach and incorporated the quirks of my home into her work. And even though it was her plan, she made it feel like it was a collaborative effort. – Bob Hardt, Rockaways, Queens NY
"We had the pleasure to work with Hannah Edmunds in the design, construction and planting of our small and shady back garden.
Hannah's good taste and eye made our project very successful. Her knowledge of plant life and aesthetics were key. I parti-cularly was im-pressed by her use of interes-ting and unusual species. She had an ap-preciation which of texture and scale were appropriate for our space and conditions. There are multi-ple levels of interest in our garden from the perspective of medium distance and up close. We found Hannah to be flexible, accommodating and fair. Now, two years after construction and planting, we continue to be thrilled with our little oasis in the city." – Laurie Dalheim and Larry Rouslin, Park Slope, Brooklyn
